Tom Dillon IV
SABA Loses a Friend

On Tuesday, February 7, the SABA Community lost a valuable member of it's family, Tom Dillon. Tom's dedication to our ballplayers and mentoring of our umpires is irreplacable. We will miss him greatly.

A celebration of life is planned for Saturday, February 11, at St. Rita's Church, 11 AM.

What's the Score?!
Notice something new around Field #1? Thanks to Bethanne Makohin, Susan LeGrande (Legion Moms), and International Color Poster, we have a new scoreboard! In yet another example of that SABA volunteer spirit, the need for a new scoreboard was identified, business contacts were called and time, effort and scoreboard were donated! Hoss Parnow and David Harvard handled the installation, making it look easy, as usual. Many thanks to all involved and to Hal Brown for your continued support!

Memorial Park, Field #1

Let There Be Shade!

We have a new shade structure over the main bleachers on field #1 at Memorial Park!  As you can see from the picture, the structure will provide much needed shade and protection from the elements.

Funding for this project (approximately $12,000) came entirely from revenue from Snack Shack sales during the baseball and softball season!  The proceeds from the Snack Shack fund are restricted to expenditures exclusively for improvements at Memorial Park.

The need for shade structures has been discussed for many years yet had to be deferred to allow monies to accumulate to make this major expenditure.  This year, thanks entirely to the hard work of you - the volunteers from the baseball and softball community - there were sufficient funds in the account to move forward.

Thank you to the Town Recreation and Parks Departments, the Parks & Recreation Commission, the Town Council, and the Snack Shack Committee for your roles.  Most of all, thank you to all you baseball and softball parents for your countless hours working in the snack shack.  Your efforts have made a difference!

Also, a big Thank You to Jeffrey Kolsky at Shade Structures Inc. for a tremendous job! The initial structure was chosen from a catalog but this sturdier design is more suited to viewing ballgames with a minimum of obstructions. Jeffrey can be reached at jkolsky@pacbell.net or at 415-706-6594.

Red Hill Park

Baseball Field & New Layout

The Red Hill Park Joint Powers Authority (JPA) in its meeting November 10th approved a new layout for the park.

The Town Council also approved the plan in their meeting of Tuesday November 23. The new layout includes a 90-foot baseball diamond in addition to the soccer field, dog park, and tennis court.

The baseball fences will be 315 feet down each baseline.  This field will accomodate play by kids 13 to adult.  For comparison - the Memorial Park diamonds are 60-feet in size and the fences are a maximum of 200 feet from home plate.  Memorial Park is only suitable for kids 12 & under (and softball for all ages).

The final plans will be submitted to the local agencies before final approval is given for construction.  The Friends of Red Hill Park are actively seeking contributions.  If you can help, please click here to visit their website
